Where did the last 6 months run away to? Anyone? Help me? :D Today was Lailah's half birthday and it was a special mile stone with a surprise of its own...not a birthday cake buttttttttt...today we introduced SOLIDS! ::commence crowd cheers:: I was so excited to make my own food. I bought sweet potatoes, or yams to be exact! Butternut squash, acorn squash, baby carrots and avocados. Well, I baked the squashes and yams today...Jordan helped me puree them up in our VitaMixer (I was making dinner, baby food, holding her, calling in-laws to come over to witness the first feeding...my hands were full AKA! He just stepped in and helped me! Thanks bubby.) We were so ready!
----So a little background before I continue...Lai has never taken a bottle or pacifier, but showed interest in our food and cups around 4 months old. So...I let her try my cup one day...and low and behold she did pretty well. I decided, a couple weeks ago, to get some sippy cups from Target to see if she would like to drink from that...gotta love spill proof, and she figured out how to drink from those incredibly fast! Our kid is a genius, no joke.
ANYWHO...to prepare for this day, I've been doing all this reading on starting solids, how to start, when to start, WHAT to start...blah blah blah. The books and doctors say that for a while, baby will push the food out of their mouths at first, because that is how they are used to using their tongues for sucking/swallowing. Needless to say, I was ready for massive sweet potato catastrophe! Invision: chunks coughed up into my face...on the ground...on the clothes - READY FOR ANYTHING! When it was time to eat, Jordan scooped up one tablespoon of yams...yup, just one - and really that was a lot, we came to find out. Everyone gathered round (the in-laws came to watch) Jordan grabbed the video camera, I grabbed the spoon, Cathi grabbed the still camera...we were set! Like I said, ready for anything...I giddily gave Lai her FIRST. BITE. AND WOW!!!!!!! I'm still picking yams out of my hair!!!! LOL JUST KIDDING! Lailah was such a PRO! Has someone been feeding her without me knowing? OMG! Well, I should've known my little Einstein would know just how to eat from a spoon, in fact, would know how to take the spoon from my hand and insist on feeding herself. :D The faces she made were hilarious and the experience was so special! I'm very proud of her...I mean, I know its just food, but...well...I guess it's a mom thing :D Happy 6month birthday babygirl!
Bon Appetite
